Maldivian seeks financing for lease of 2 ATR Aircraft

National carrier Maldivian, operated by Island Aviation, has announced its intention to finance the lease of two additional ATR aircraft. The airline issued a tender on Monday, inviting proposals for the finance lease of two ATR 42-600 aircraft, as stated in the accompanying Request for Proposal (RFP). The lease order for these aircraft is currently in the final stages of confirmation.

According to the RFP, one of the aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in the last quarter of this year, while the other is expected in the first quarter of 2025. In an effort to identify suitable partners for this financing opportunity, interested parties have been invited to submit their proposals no later than July 22.

Maldivian’s decision to bring in additional ATR aircraft stems from the airline’s ongoing efforts to replace its ageing Dash-8 aircraft in the existing fleet. As part of this fleet modernisation initiative, three ATR aircraft have already been introduced, and the forthcoming lease of two more will further contribute to the carrier’s operational efficiency and passenger experience.

In April, Maldivian had announced the lease of five additional ATR aircraft, solidifying its commitment to expanding its fleet capacity and network reach. Furthermore, last October, the airline revealed its plans to lease an Airbus A123LR aircraft, although specific details regarding this lease have yet to be disclosed. Additionally, in February, the lease of two Airbus A330-200 aircraft was also announced, showcasing the airline’s strategic focus on diversifying its fleet and enhancing its long-haul capabilities.
