Dhiraagu marks graduation of 16th Apprenticeship Programme cohort

Dhiraagu has held the graduation ceremony for participants of the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme 2025, marking the successful completion of the programme for the 16th consecutive year. A total of 15 apprentices were awarded certificates at the ceremony, recognising the completion of their training.

The Chief Guest at the event was the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed. The ceremony was also attended by heads of educational institutions, along with members of Dhiraagu’s board and senior management.

The Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme is the company’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and the first corporate apprenticeship programme of its kind introduced in the Maldives. Launched in 2009, the programme focuses on developing employability and workplace skills among Maldivian youth. To date, a total of 312 young people have enrolled in the programme.

During the ceremony, Dhiraagu also welcomed the 17th batch of apprentices, with 25 participants joining the programme this year. Through a structured training framework, soft skills development sessions and opportunities to work across multiple core business areas, the programme provides apprentices with a pathway towards professional development and long-term career prospects. Apprentices are placed in Malé as well as at Dhiraagu’s regional operations centres across the country.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed noted that the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme has set a strong example in vocational training over the past 17 years. He expressed appreciation for Dhiraagu’s continued commitment to developing the skills and capabilities of Maldivian youth, acknowledging the company’s role in contributing to a skilled and employable workforce.

Dhiraagu Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed congratulated the graduating apprentices and welcomed the new intake. He stated that the programme’s primary objective is to equip young people with practical professional experience, technical competencies and a strong work ethic. He added that the company hopes participants will use the knowledge and experience gained through the programme to progress in their careers and achieve long-term success.

Through the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme, the company continues to provide young people with opportunities for skills development through intensive on-site training under the guidance of experienced management and professionals.
