Alia supports Sri Lanka’s humanitarian response with $20,000 donation
Alia Group, one of the Maldives’ leading private companies, has donated USD 20,000 to support relief and recovery efforts in Sri Lanka following the recent natural disaster that has affected communities across the country.
As part of the contribution, Alia’s Chief Financial Officer formally handed over the donation to the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, Mohamed Rizvi Hassan.
Sri Lanka and the Maldives share longstanding ties, including cultural links and bilateral relations. Many Sri Lankan live and work in the Maldives across various sectors. Alia Group said its contribution was made in the spirit of partnership to assist those affected and support ongoing humanitarian work.
The company also extended its sympathy to individuals and families impacted by the disaster and expressed confidence in the resilience of the Sri Lankan people.
The death toll from devastating floods and mudslides in Sri Lanka has exceeded 330 people, as the country grapples with one of its worst weather disasters in years.
More than 200 are missing, and some 20,000 homes have been destroyed, sending 108,000 people to state-run temporary shelters, the Disaster Management Centre reported.
