Bank of Maldives recognised for contribution to sports sector

The Bank of Maldives (BML) has received a special award for its contribution to the promotion of sports in the Maldives.

The award was presented at the Maldives Sports Awards 2025, held at the Social Centre on Sunday.

The award was accepted on behalf of the bank by BML Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef.

BML has worked with a number of national sports associations to support the development of sports and the organisation of national-level competitions. The bank maintains long-term partnerships with associations representing football, swimming, tennis, basketball and surfing.

Since 2023, the bank has offered BML Sports Scholarships on an annual basis. Eight athletes have so far received training opportunities under the programme.

BML has also reached an agreement with the Maldives Basketball Association to establish a basketball arena. In addition, the bank has served as the official sponsor of the national football team since 2017.
