Dhiraagu dedicates December in 2025 calendar for Maldivian fishing
The December month of Dhiraagu’s 2025 Calendar is dedicated to Maldivian fishing, celebrating the enduring bond between Maldivians, the sea, and our rich fishing heritage. Dhiraagu has also released a special video highlighting this vital aspect of our culture.
In the video, the determination and courage of our Dhivehi ancestors, who crafted their own vessels to venture into the open sea and mastered the skill of catching one of the fastest species in the ocean, the skipjack tuna, is highlighted. It also shares insights into the variety of fish species caught in the Maldives through sustainable pole-and-line fishing, a practice that has become a hallmark of the nation’s commitment to responsible fisheries management.
The 2025 calendar of Dhiraagu, “Minivankan Mathee Abadhah” (Forever Independent), was developed to honour 60 years of Maldivian independence, celebrating the unity and national pride that connect communities across the country. Each month features a national symbol that reflects the unique culture, heritage, and traditions of the Maldives.
Dhiraagu continues their efforts to revive Dhivehi traditions while sharing knowledge of the history and culture that define our nation’s identity.
