Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race donates MVR 678,800 to 13 child-focused NGOs
The 2025 Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) has contributed MVR 678,800 to 13 NGOs working to protect children across the country.
At the prize-giving and donation handover event, Dhiraagu’s Senior Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility noted that this year’s theme, Help Protect Children, reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting children’s well-being. He stated that Dhiraagu partnered with 13 NGOs dedicated to child protection, inclusion, and support.
He added that DMRR is “more than a run – it is a celebration of purpose and community”, highlighting that the event was powered by renewable energy with 100% of electricity use offset. This approach, he said, demonstrated how technology and sustainability can support large-scale events in an environmentally responsible way.
During registration for DMRR 2025, participants were invited to nominate an NGO of their choice. A special Dhiraagu grant of MVR 200,000 was distributed among the five most-nominated NGOs. In addition, MVR 100 from each runner’s registration fee, along with proceeds from special bib number sales, was awarded to all 13 partner NGOs. These contributions totalled MVR 478,800. Combined with the special grant, a total of MVR 678,800 was awarded to support the organisations’ programmes, particularly initiatives focused on child protection.
The five most-nominated NGOs received MVR 76,831 each. They are:
- Cancer Society of Maldives
- Tiny Hearts of Maldives
- Maldives Autism Association
- Maldives Thalassaemia Society
- Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC)
The remaining partner NGOs each received MVR 36,831. They are:
- Child Abuse Prevention Society (C.A.P.S)
- Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM)
- Care Society
- Moms Aid
- Society for Health Education (SHE)
- The Wheelchair Association of Maldives (WAM)
- Diabetes Society of Maldives
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remains the only international run in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar and features a World Athletics-certified race route.
Dhiraagu has also confirmed that the next edition of the race will take place on 30 October 2026.
