Madifushi Private Island launches coconut palm initiative to transform Meemu Atoll

Madifushi Private Island has initiated an ambitious Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aimed at planting 5,000 coconut palms across the islands of Meemu Atoll within the next year.

The initiative was officially launched on November 25th at M. Rayimandhoo, with the participation of the resort’s management, MIC Group board members, and representatives from local and island councils.

Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of MIC Group, acknowledged the support from local councils and emphasised the company’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with the communities in Meemu Atoll. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration, highlighting the group’s dedication to providing opportunities and strengthening ties with the region. Under the CSR initiative, the company aims to build closer connections between the group, the resort, and the islands of Meemu Atoll.

Ali Shakir, Group General Manager of MIC Group, reiterated the resort’s focus on sustainability and community empowerment, describing the coconut palm planting project as a critical step toward these goals.

In collaboration with local communities, Madifushi Private Island has identified key locations across Meemu Atoll for planting coconut palms. These include mosques, schools, newly reclaimed lands, and the upcoming domestic airport. The targeted islands for the project are Dhiggaru, Raiymandhoo, Mulah, Veyvah, Naalaafushi, Maduvvaree, Muli, Kolhufushi, and Madifushi Private Island itself.

This effort aligns with the Maldives government’s broader goal of planting 5 million trees, as announced by President H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on World Environment Day.

Madifushi Private Island is renowned for offering a luxurious getaway, combining elegant accommodations, exceptional dining, and a variety of recreational activities. The resort is deeply committed to eco-friendly practices, ensuring the preservation of the Maldives’ natural beauty for future generations.

Mohamed Hilmy, General Manager of Madifushi Private Island, emphasised the resort’s proactive approach to ecological conservation. He stated that these efforts are about more than just planting trees—they aim to create a legacy of sustainability and resilience for the island’s ecosystem and cultural heritage.

Through the planting of 5,000 coconut palms, Madifushi Private Island is contributing significantly to the environment and the well-being of local communities in Meemu Atoll. This initiative reflects the resort’s dedication to sustainable tourism and its role as a responsible corporate citizen.
