Maldives begins accepting India’s RuPay card payment network
India’s card payment network, RuPay, has been launched in Maldives.
RuPay was introduced in Maldives virtually at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Monday during President Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to India.
President Muizzu, in a joint statement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the introduction of the RuPay in Maldives would greatly facilitate the people of both countries.
Bank of Maldives started accepting RuPay cards on its ATMs and POS terminals. RuPay, a product of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is India’s first global card payment network which is now used by more than 300 million users worldwide.
Commenting on the milestone, BML’s Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking Moosa Nimal stated, “We are delighted to partner with National Payment Corporation of India to facilitate the acceptance of RuPay cards in the Maldives. RuPay has made a significant impact on the retail payment systems in India and with its acceptance at Bank of Maldives, the widest banking network in the country, payments for RuPay users have now become easier than ever.”
