Maldivian Expands Fleet with Order for 2 ATR 42-600s at Singapore Air Show 2024
Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has announced a firm order for two ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft at the ongoing Singapore Air Show 2024. This order expands Maldivian’s fleet to a total of seven ATR aircraft, further strengthening its position as a key player in connecting the island nation with the world.
The new ATR 42-600s will be configured with a modern and comfortable cabin layout, offering passengers an enhanced travel experience on short-haul routes within the Maldives and the surrounding region. The aircraft’s fuel efficiency and operational flexibility make it ideal for serving Maldivian’s diverse network, which includes popular tourist destinations and remote island communities.
Commenting on the order, a statement from ATR said, “By selecting 2 new #ATR42-600, @MaldivianAero invests in the lowest-emission and most cost-effective regional aircraft on the market. These turboprops will bolster Maldivian’s flexibility to reliably and comfortably serve even the shortest routes, all with maximised profitability.”
Maldives Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, also took to social media to share the news, stating, “Today, ordered an additional 2 brand new ATR 42-600. Expected delivery by the end of this year! Govt plan of modernizing Maldivian under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.”
The delivery of the two new ATR 42-600s is expected to take place by the end of 2024. This expansion reflects Maldivian’s commitment to providing efficient, reliable, and comfortable air travel to its passengers, further solidifying its position as a leading airline in the Maldives.
