Nexus Hospitality appoints Saad Kassis-Mohamed as Chairman; unveils Maldives expansion
Nexus Hospitality has announced the appointment of Saad Kassis-Mohamed as chairman and outlined a multi year expansion across the Maldives. The plan combines fresh governance with a clear rollout that will scale an asset light mix of new build and conversion resorts, introduce destination led F&B concepts, and embed transparent sustainability standards across operations. These standards include reef safe practices, on island solar and water recovery, and Maldives first hiring and training pathways.
The development pipeline spans North Malé Atoll and South Malé Atoll with staged openings beginning next season. Guest experience will focus on seaplane lounge partnerships, wellness led programming, and chef driven concepts designed for longer stay and higher spend travellers.
“Our Maldives strategy is simple. Build intelligently, operate transparently, and leave the reefs better than we found them,” said Saad Kassis-Mohamed, chairman of Nexus Hospitality. “We will pair disciplined capital deployment with local talent development so that growth creates durable value for guests, partners, and communities.”
Amira El Bashir, chief executive of Nexus Hospitality, said, “This plan aligns board oversight with a measured expansion path. We will open where infrastructure and ecology support long term success, and we will publish clear progress against our environmental and training commitments.”
Nexus Hospitality will measure energy use, fresh water recovery, reef health indicators, and local employment as core metrics. Resorts will prioritise solar generation where viable, invest in water reclamation, and contract local suppliers whenever possible. Training programs will be offered to Maldivian team members for culinary, marine, and guest services roles.
The first properties are slated to welcome guests during the 2025 to 2026 season, with additional openings to follow based on site readiness and community consultation. The portfolio will balance private island retreats with more accessible premium offerings to serve both celebratory and extended stay travel.
