Velana International Airport takes to the skies for cleaner waters with new ocean cleanup drone
Velana International Airport, Maldives’ main international gateway, has taken a significant step towards a cleaner environment with the introduction of a new ocean cleanup drone. The initiative, spearheaded by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), was officially launched by CEO & MD Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and DMDs Mohamed Lam’aan and Mujthaba Latheef.
This innovative solution comes courtesy of a close partnership with State Trading Organization plc. The drone will be deployed to keep the water aerodromes and surrounding lagoon areas free from debris, promoting a healthier marine environment for the beautiful Maldivian ecosystem.
Velana International Airport, consistently recognized for its beauty, plays a pivotal role in the Maldivian tourism industry. The use of ocean cleanup drones presents a unique opportunity to address the growing challenge of marine debris while safeguarding the pristine waters that surround the airport. These drones offer several advantages over traditional cleanup methods:
- Efficiency: Drones can cover large areas quickly and effectively, allowing for a more comprehensive cleaning effort.
- Accuracy: Equipped with advanced sensors, drones can target specific areas with greater precision.
- Safety: Drones minimize the need for manual cleanup, reducing the risk of exposure to pollutants or hazards.
The implementation of this eco-friendly initiative underscores MACL’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The new ocean cleanup drone is a positive step towards preserving the Maldives’ natural beauty and ensuring a healthy marine environment for future generations.
