Bids open for mid-range hotels in Hulhumale’s Urban Isle
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Thursday announced the opening of bids for the development and operation of three mid-range hotels in the Urban Isle section of Phase 2 in Hulhumale. The announcement invites interested parties to submit proposals for medium-sized or mid-scale hotels on three designated plots within Urban Isle.
HDC stated that priority will be given to business models that align with the corporation’s vision and objectives while also benefiting both the developer and HDC. In the event of multiple bidders, preference will be given to those whose plans best fit HDC’s corporate vision, strategic objectives, and masterplan.
Development guidelines specify that the hotels should be accessible to people with special needs and include designated areas for vehicle and bicycle parking.
This bid follows an earlier opportunity for expressions of interest in developing guesthouses and boutique hotels within Urban Isle. The 103,421-sqm project site is located at the northernmost end of Hulhumale’s second phase, directly opposite Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort.
According to HDC, the Urban Isle project covers 23 hectares and will offer various types of tourist accommodations. In addition to leisure tourists, the area is also intended to cater to short-term or transit visitors, business travellers, and long-term stayers, including digital nomads. HDC has previously highlighted that improved connections between Hulhumale, Male, and Velana International Airport will enhance tourism opportunities in the area.
