The Standard Maldives supports Kinolhahu School with new Outdoor Reading Park

The Standard Maldives has joined hands with the community of R. Kinolhas Island to inaugurate the Outdoor Reading Park at Kinolhahu School. The initiative reflects the school’s guiding vision, ‘Today is for Tomorrow’, and demonstrates a belief that education extends beyond the classroom, thriving in spaces that foster curiosity, imagination, and inclusivity.

On 16 September, General Manager Justin Swart, Executive Housekeeper Ismail Moosa, and Human Resources Director Mohamed Shadid attended the celebration alongside teachers, parents, and students. Their participation underscored the resort’s commitment to supporting projects that reach beyond hospitality, investing in opportunities that nurture future generations.

The project has been designed to be more than a reading park. At its centre will stand a purpose-built octagonal classroom, tailored to support students with Special Educational Needs. This fully air-conditioned, glass-walled facility will feature sensory-friendly elements and accessible design, providing children requiring additional support with a welcoming and dignified learning environment. Surrounding it, the Reading Park will offer shaded seating, weather-resistant benches, and quiet corners, enabling all 162 students to immerse themselves in stories, explore ideas, and draw inspiration. Together, the classroom and park will form a dynamic extension of the school, where learning is both engaging and alive.

“It is a privilege for us to be part of this project, sponsoring the creation of this reading park for the students of Kinolhahu School,” said General Manager Justin Swart. “A place like this is not just about benches and books; it is about creating a space where imagination can take root, where learning feels alive, and where children can grow into thoughtful, confident individuals.

“My hope is that this park becomes more than just a quiet corner for reading. I hope it becomes a space where children learn not what to think, but how to take what they learn and make it their own, shaping their ideas, their values, and their future. As a great thinker once observed, the highest form of respect for a young mind is not telling them what to think, but equipping them with the tools to think for themselves.”

Through this initiative, The Standard Maldives has reaffirmed its belief that education provides the strongest foundation a community can build. The Reading Park and SEN Octagonal Classroom at Kinolhahu School will stand as symbols of possibility, inclusivity, and imagination — spaces where children will not only learn, but also discover who they can become.
