IHG Maldives hosts Maahefun celebration for industry partners in Malé

IHG Hotels & Resorts in the Maldives came together Wednesday night to honour the cherished Maldivian tradition of Maahefun, hosting a special celebration for destination management companies, key business partners and their families at Lonuziyaaraiy Park in Malé.

The event transformed the park into an elegant destination, which brought together three IHG properties in the Maldives: InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, Noku Maldives, Vignette Collection, an IHG Hotel, and Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives, highlighting a shared commitment to recognising the partnerships that support the continued growth of Maldives tourism.

Maahefun is traditionally observed as the final gathering and meal before the start of Ramadan, and is recognised across the Maldives as a meaningful occasion centred on togetherness, gratitude, and community. While Ramadan is a month of spiritual reflection and devotion, it is also a time of generosity and connection, where meals are shared and relationships are strengthened.

“Maahefun is a deeply meaningful tradition that is uniquely Maldivian,” said Sharon Garrett, Director of Marketing & Sustainability, Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives.

“It is a celebration of unity and togetherness, bringing people together through food and shared experience. It was the perfect opportunity for IHG to thank our valued partners, acknowledge their contribution to our collective success, and extend our warmest wishes for Ramadan.”

Guests enjoyed a selection of contemporary and traditional Maahefun cuisine, inspired by local ingredients and flavours that have shaped Maldivian food heritage over generations.

More than a meal, Maahefun reflects the spirit of gratitude, unity, and respect for cultural identity. It is an occasion that reinforces the importance of community and hospitality, values that align strongly with IHG’s purpose of True Hospitality for Good.

At IHG, partnerships are built on trust, shared success, and meaningful relationships. Celebrating local traditions such as Maahefun is an important way to recognise those connections and honour the cultural fabric of the Maldives.

Ramadan is expected to take place from 18 February to 20 March 2026. While IHG’s private island resorts in the Maldives continue to offer an unrestricted experience for international travellers during Ramadan, guests are encouraged to be mindful and respectful of local customs when visiting Malé, local islands, and while transiting through Velana International Airport.
