Bank of Maldives launches 90 ATMs including 70 dollar machines
Bank of Maldives (BML) has launched 90 new ATMs, including 70 machines dispensing US dollars, at a ceremony held on Wednesday.
The ATMs were inaugurated by President Mohamed Muizzu. The event was attended by Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and other officials of the bank.
The bank installed 20 MVR ATMs in islands where branches are already in operation. The 70 USD ATMs have been distributed across atolls, including Kaafu Atoll with 10 machines, Raa and Addu Atolls with six each, and multiple atolls with between one and five machines.
Following the launch, the bank’s network has increased to 338 ATMs nationwide.
The expansion forms part of the “BML ATM for the Entire Maldives” programme, under which ATM services were established in all inhabited islands by 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shareef said the bank had introduced a large number of cash recycling ATMs at the same time. These machines support both deposits and withdrawals.
According to bank data, MVR 17.1 billion was deposited through the ATM network in 2025, with more than 8.4 million transactions recorded.
