Sun Siyam Olhuveli celebrates Hotelier Maldives Awards Landscaper of the Year win

Sun Siyam Olhuveli has marked a milestone for one of its longest-serving team members after Abdulla Ibrahim was named Landscaper of the Year at the Hotelier Maldives Awards 2026, recognising his contribution to the resort’s outdoor spaces over nearly three decades.

The award was presented during the gala held on 26 April 2026, which honoured tourism professionals from across the Maldives.

Abdulla has been part of the resort since 1995, building a career that developed alongside the growth of Sun Siyam Olhuveli. He began his working life at the property as a dhoni captain before moving into landscaping, where he went on to play a central role in shaping and maintaining the island’s gardens and surrounding environment.

Over the years, his work has helped define many of the resort’s outdoor spaces, from pathways and planted areas to beachfront settings used by guests. The resort said his approach has also included environmentally conscious practices, such as returning washed-up seagrass to the soil as natural fertiliser, while taking part in wider efforts such as tree planting.

Commenting on the recognition, Abdulla Ibrahim said: “This island has been part of my life for many years, and I care for it as I would my own home. Every tree we plant and every space we shape is for the people who walk through it. To be recognised in this way means a lot, not just for me, but for everyone in my team who works alongside me every day.”

Hassan Adil, General Manager of Sun Siyam Olhuveli, said Abdulla’s recognition reflected both his personal contribution and the wider role staff play in shaping the guest experience.

“Abdulla’s journey is a true reflection of what we stand for. His dedication, humility, and deep understanding of the island have shaped experiences that our guests feel the moment they arrive. This recognition is not only about beautiful landscapes, but about the heart behind them. We are incredibly proud to see his story celebrated,” he said.

Sun Siyam Olhuveli said the award also reflects its wider focus on recognising staff development, long service and commitment across the resort.
