Banyan Tree resorts join Dhiffushi community for World Environment Day activities

In celebration of World Environment Day, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru joined hands with the local community of Dhiffushi for a day of tree planting and beach clean-up activities, bringing together volunteers, local organisations and resort associates in support of a cleaner, healthier island environment.

The programme commenced with a tree-planting activity, during which 20 coconut palm trees were planted to support greener community spaces and contribute to the island’s natural environment. The activity was carried out in collaboration with volunteers from Dhiffushi School and citizens, STELCO, Health Centre, Women’s Development Committee, Maldives’ Police Service, Dhiffushi Council, Other Divers.

“The community clean-up in Dhiffushi was a wonderful example of what can be achieved when we come together with a shared purpose,” said Alex Burden, Marine Lab & Sustainability Manager at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru. “Beyond cleaning the island and planting trees, it was an opportunity to take collective pride in our environment and invest in a greener, healthier future. We are grateful to all the volunteers, partners, community leaders and residents who dedicated their time and energy to this initiative. Their support is a reminder that meaningful change begins at the community level, and that together, we can make a lasting positive impact.”
