Visit Maldives partners with Indian music icon Badshah for global campaign

Visit Maldives has successfully concluded a prominent India-focused celebrity destination collaboration of 2026, hosting internationally acclaimed Indian music superstar, television personality, Indian Idol judge and Visit Maldives Cultural Ambassador Badshah for an exclusive four-day content production journey across the Maldives.

Hosted by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, the collaboration brought together one of India’s most influential cultural figures and one of the world’s most celebrated island destinations. The campaign has been strategically designed to strengthen the Maldives’ presence in India, rebuild destination consideration and inspire millions of Indian travellers through authentic, high-impact digital storytelling.

India is a market of exceptional strategic importance to the Maldives. Its geographic proximity, strong air connectivity, expanding middle class and growing demand for international leisure travel make it one of the destination’s most promising long-term source markets. The Maldives is particularly well positioned to attract Indian honeymooners, couples, families, luxury travellers, wedding groups, corporate travellers and younger experience-seeking audiences looking for convenient international escapes.

India also has a proven history of delivering significant tourism growth for the Maldives. It became the Maldives’ largest source market for the first time in 2020 and retained the leading position in 2021 and 2022, recording 291,787 and 241,382 arrivals respectively. India remained the number-one source market in 2023, contributing 209,193 tourists and 11.1% of total arrivals.

This strong historical performance demonstrates the Indian market’s ability to generate arrivals at scale and support different segments of the Maldivian tourism industry, from luxury resorts and private island experiences to guesthouses, local islands and liveaboards. Strengthening demand from India therefore remains a central priority within Visit Maldives’ broader market diversification and destination growth strategy.

With a vast global audience and billions of cumulative music and video streams, Badshah has a powerful connection with consumers across India and the wider South Asian diaspora. His influence extends beyond music into entertainment, television, fashion, lifestyle and popular culture, making him an ideal partner to communicate the Maldives’ experiences to a new generation of travellers.

Throughout the visit, Badshah experienced a carefully curated itinerary showcasing the breadth, diversity and sophistication of a Maldivian holiday. Hosted at Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, the journey combined secluded island living, personalised hospitality, world-class wellness, marine adventures, private yacht excursions, exceptional dining and authentic cultural encounters.

The campaign presents the Maldives not only as an aspirational luxury destination, but also as a destination capable of offering privacy, adventure, romance, family experiences, wellness and meaningful cultural connections within a single journey.

During the collaboration, Badshah produced a collection of premium destination content that will be released across his social media platforms in the coming weeks. The deliverables include a dedicated Instagram Reel, carousel posts, Instagram Stories and a long-form YouTube vlog.

The content will integrate the Maldives naturally into Badshah’s travel experience while highlighting the exceptional hospitality, privacy, natural beauty and personalised experiences offered by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. Its multi-platform format is intended to engage audiences at different stages of the travel decision-making journey, from initial inspiration and destination discovery to holiday planning and booking consideration.

CEO and MD of Visit Maldives Corporation Ibrahim Shiuree said: “India is not simply another source market for the Maldives; it is one of the most important markets for the future of our tourism industry. It has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to deliver arrivals at scale, support different categories of tourism businesses and respond strongly to destination marketing and improved connectivity.

Our collaboration with Badshah is therefore a strategic investment in strengthening the Maldives’ relationship with Indian travellers. His influence across music, culture, entertainment and digital media allows us to communicate with millions of consumers in an authentic and highly engaging way.

Through this campaign, we want to remind Indian travellers that the Maldives is close, accessible and extraordinarily diverse. Whether they are seeking a short luxury escape, honeymoon, family holiday, celebration, wellness retreat or adventure, there is a Maldivian experience for them. Our objective is to translate Badshah’s reach into renewed destination interest, stronger travel demand and sustainable long-term growth from India.”

The collaboration comes at an important time for the Indian outbound travel sector. India recorded more than 27 million international departures in 2023, while the World Travel & Tourism Council forecasts Indian outbound travel spending to more than double from USD 34.6 billion in 2025 to USD 71.8 billion by 2036. This positions India as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most competitive outbound tourism markets.

As of 19 July 2026, the Maldives had welcomed 68,933 tourists from India, representing 6.0% of total arrivals and positioning India as the destination’s sixth-largest source market. During the same period, the Maldives recorded 1,154,980 tourist arrivals from all markets.

Visit Maldives views the current position as an important opportunity to accelerate renewed growth and restore India’s contribution to its full potential. Targeted partnerships involving leading cultural personalities, airlines, travel companies, digital platforms, media organisations and tourism industry partners will remain central to this effort.

The Badshah collaboration forms part of Visit Maldives’ wider strategy to work with globally recognised personalities whose influence extends beyond entertainment into travel, lifestyle and culture. By combining the distinctive experiences of the Maldives with the voice of one of India’s most recognised cultural icons, the campaign is expected to generate substantial visibility, deepen emotional connection with the destination and inspire a new generation of Indian travellers to experience the Sunny Side of Life.
