ananea Madivaru Maldives appoints Pierre Leif Edlund as General Manager

ananea Madivaru Maldives has appointed Pierre Leif Edlund as General Manager, marking his return to the Maldives after two years in Bangkok and the continuation of a hospitality career that has included senior leadership roles at several resorts across the country.

Edlund took up the position in July 2026, returning to the Maldives for what he describes as his ninth year working in the destination. Originally from Sweden, he has built an international career spanning Europe, the Middle East, Thailand and the Maldives, with a focus on luxury resorts and lifestyle hospitality.

Prior to joining ananea Madivaru Maldives, Edlund served for two years as General Manager of Chatrium Grand Bangkok, a 562-room luxury hotel in the Thai capital.

His Maldives experience includes serving as Resort Manager at One&Only Reethi Rah from September 2023 to August 2024, following more than two years as Resort Manager at Niyama Private Islands Maldives. Earlier, he was Resort Manager in-charge at lti Maafushivaru Maldives from 2019 to 2021 and Assistant Director of Operations at Kuramathi Maldives from 2016 to 2019.

In his new role, Edlund will oversee the operations and continued development of ananea Madivaru Maldives, bringing his experience across resort operations, guest experience and team leadership to the property.

His approach to hospitality centres on personal service and a less formal interpretation of luxury. Edlund describes his philosophy simply: “luxury should feel effortless”, with human connection and thoughtful details forming an important part of the guest experience. He also identifies his leadership approach as hands-on and focused on continuous development, both of the resort experience and its people.

The appointment also aligns with the positioning of ananea, whose hospitality concept is built around what the brand calls “slow glamour” — combining relaxed minimalism, contemporary design and connections to local culture and surroundings.

Located in North Ari Atoll, ananea Madivaru Maldives commenced operations in April 2025. The resort is set across two islands connected by an overwater walkway, surrounding a lagoon and house reef. It is approximately 66 kilometres from Velana International Airport, with the seaplane journey taking around 20 minutes.

The resort features 111 beach and overwater villas and residences across 11 categories, with private pools incorporated across its accommodation collection. Facilities include a 65-metre infinity pool, a second pool at Paradise Beach Club, a kids’ club and the overwater Kandu Spa.

Food and beverage is a major component of the property, with nine restaurants, in-villa dining and two bars. Its culinary offering ranges from Maldivian, Thai, Korean and Indian concepts at Asian Food Street to Mediterranean cuisine at the overwater Luna, Japanese teppanyaki at Ikigai, Nikkei cuisine at Flores and seafood and grilled meats at The Flame.

Edlund has also completed hospitality management programmes in revenue management, strategic marketing, financial management and food and beverage management through Cornell University, as well as the Leading with Finance programme through Harvard Business School Online.
