Bank of Maldives achieves world record for simultaneous snorkelling

Bank of Maldives (BML) has achieved the Guinness World Records title for the most people snorkelling simultaneously at a single venue with 314 participants taking part in the record-breaking attempt at Niva Kurumba Maldives.

The record attempt was carried out as an awareness initiative to bring people together, beneath the surface, to experience first-hand the fragile beauty of the Maldives’ reefs and inspire collective responsibility for their protection. By turning conservation into a shared, memorable experience, BML aimed to spotlight the urgency of protecting the ocean ecosystems that the Maldives depends on, and to encourage individuals and communities to see themselves as active participants in that effort.

The achievement was made possible through the combined support of BML staff, Niva Kurumba Maldives, and guests residing at the resort.

Following official verification, the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior.

The record attempt builds on BML’s broader environmental commitment through its ENV POS initiative, which channels a contribution from the Bank’s earnings on every transaction made through a BML Point of Sale terminal into funding environmental initiatives across the country at no extra cost to customers or merchants. Through ENV POS, BML has partnered with organisations such as Parley Maldives and the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) to support the recycling and export of ocean-bound plastic waste, helping protect the Maldives’ islands and marine ecosystems for future generations.

The achievement reflects BML’s commitment to sustainability and community, bringing people together in celebration of our shared responsibility towards the environment.
