Bank of Maldives, Mastercard launch tourism data platform for Visit Maldives
Bank of Maldives (BML) on Sunday announced the launch of a state-of-the-art Tourism Insight Data Platform.
The platform was developed in a strategic collaboration with global payments leader Mastercard and has been delivered to Visit Maldives, the nation’s tourism promotion board.
The new platform is designed to provide key industry stakeholders with unprecedented, data-driven insights into the behaviour of tourists visiting the archipelago. By analysing aggregated and anonymised transaction data, the platform will illuminate traveler spending patterns, purchasing behaviours, and key preferences across different source markets and tourist segments.
This initiative marks a pivotal shift towards a more data-centric strategy for the Maldivian tourism industry. The insights generated are expected to empower stakeholders—including resorts, guesthouses, liveaboards, and tour operators—to make highly informed strategic decisions. The ultimate goals are to identify new growth opportunities, optimise marketing efforts, and ultimately enhance the visitor experience at every touchpoint of their journey in the Maldives.
The collaboration leverages Mastercard’s global expertise in data analytics, providing a macroscopic view of travel trends that can be drilled down to granular details relevant to the Maldivian market.
