Barceló Nasandhura Malé officially opens with grand gala
Barceló Nasandhura Malé, the first five-star hotel in the Maldivian capital, celebrated its official opening with a grand gala on May 19. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, alongside senior representatives from Barceló Hotel Group.
Held at the new seafront hotel, the event marked a significant milestone in the country’s hospitality landscape. Minister Thoriq Ibrahim and Barceló officials addressed the attendees, highlighting the strategic importance of the hotel’s opening for tourism in Malé and the broader push to diversify the capital’s accommodation offerings.
Located opposite the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and just a 10-minute drive from Velana International Airport, Barceló Nasandhura Malé offers 136 rooms across various categories and 116 upscale serviced apartments. With its central location and unobstructed views of the Maldivian coastline, the property blends urban luxury with the natural beauty of the archipelago.
The hotel features a diverse culinary offering, including three restaurants and multiple bars. Guests can dine at Alimas Lounge Café, Oivaru all-day buffet restaurant, or Dons, which specializes in Chinese cuisine. The rooftop bar BHeaven provides panoramic views and a dedicated shisha lounge, while the Pool Bar caters to guests relaxing by the city’s first and only oceanfront pool.
Barceló Nasandhura Malé also includes a comprehensive wellness area with a spa featuring six treatment rooms, and a fitness centre with sweeping ocean views. The hotel’s business and events facilities span over 1,000 square metres, positioning it as a key venue for MICE events in the capital.
The launch of Barceló Nasandhura Malé marks the Barceló Hotel Group’s second property in the Maldives, following the opening of Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives in South Ari Atoll last year. The group now operates 11 properties across six countries in Asia, underlining its continued expansion in the region.
With this latest addition, Barceló Hotel Group aims to offer both leisure and business travellers a premium experience in the heart of Malé.
