Canareef Resort Maldives set to welcome over 500 athletes for 15th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships

The Maldives is gearing up to make history this November as it hosts the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships at Canareef Resort Maldives. This prominent event, scheduled from November 5th to 11th, will be the largest international sports competition ever held in the country.

With over 500 athletes and officials representing 55 countries, the championship is set to capture global attention, highlighting not only the strength and skill of the participants but also the Maldives’ natural splendour as a premier destination for world-class events.

The official launch ceremony took place at the VIP lounge of the Galolhu Football Stadium and was inaugurated by the Maldives Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Mr. Abdullah Rafiu. He was joined by notable figures such as the Commissioner of Sports, Mohamed Thalaal; the General Secretary of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Mr. Thamouh; and Mr. Ahmed Hamza, Director of Canareef Resort Maldives, which will host the championship.

During the event, a special video presentation showcasing the breathtaking scenery of Canareef Resort Maldives was screened, adding to the anticipation for the forthcoming competition.

Minister Rafiu emphasised that hosting an event of this scale marks a significant milestone for the Maldives. He expressed optimism that it would pave the way for future international tournaments, establishing the Maldives as a top-tier destination for global sporting events.

Mr. Ahmed Hamza highlighted the vast marketing potential this event holds for both Canareef Resort Maldives and Addu Atoll. Each participating national team brings with them a global audience, further enhancing the Maldives’ visibility through extensive social media promotion. This exposure will strengthen the country’s reputation as a prime location for international competitions.

Ibrahim Hameed, President of the Bodybuilding Association of Maldives (BBAM), shared his pride in bringing this championship to his home atoll of Addu. His commitment, combined with the steadfast support of Canareef Resort Maldives, has been instrumental in making this event a landmark occasion for both the Maldives and the international bodybuilding community.

The Maldives has previously hosted the 2022 Asian Bodybuilding Championships and the South Asian Bodybuilding Championships, which laid the groundwork for securing this prestigious world championship. World Bodybuilding Federation President, Datuk Paul Chua, acknowledged the Maldives’ track record in successfully organising such events and expressed confidence in the country’s ability to host the world championship with excellence.

As the countdown to the championship begins, Canareef Resort Maldives is ready to welcome the world, celebrating not only athletic excellence but also the unparalleled beauty of the islands.
