Chefs Guild of Maldives showcases Maldivian cuisine at Worldchefs charity event in Malaysia

The Chefs Guild of Maldives (CGM) brought the flavours of the Maldives to the international stage at the 2nd Worldchefs – Asian Chefs Charity Event, held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang, Malaysia.

Representing CGM, Fathimath Umar, Chef Ishaq Solih and Mariyam Shaazy worked together to prepare and present 200 portions of Maldivian cuisine to an audience that included more than 100 Worldchefs-certified judges and special invitees.

The team showcased Kandukukulhu, Kaliya Birinjee and Kopeefathu Satani, introducing guests from around the world to the distinctive flavours of Maldivian cuisine. Their contribution celebrated the country’s culinary heritage while demonstrating the skill, dedication and teamwork of Maldivian chefs.

CGM’s participation gave the Maldives a place among the countries sharing their national dishes at the event. Through the efforts of its three Exco members, the Guild helped bring the country’s food culture to an international audience while supporting a charitable cause.

The event was held as part of the official welcome dinner for the 20th Battle of the Chefs 2026, bringing chefs and guests together to celebrate food, friendship and a shared commitment to the community. The evening also coincided with International Chefs Day.

The charity event supported The 2 Way Centre, Penang, a non-profit organisation that assists parents and children with special educational needs. The centre helps families address communication, developmental, learning and behavioural challenges, supporting children as they work towards reaching their full potential.

For the CGM team, the evening was an opportunity to contribute their time and culinary skills to a cause beyond the kitchen. Preparing and serving 200 portions required teamwork and commitment, and their contribution helped make Maldivian cuisine part of an evening dedicated to compassion and community.

Through its participation, the Chefs Guild of Maldives continued to champion Maldivian culinary culture and the chefs who carry it forward—sharing the flavours of home while joining an international culinary family in support of others.
