Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives celebrates Earth Day with sustainability initiatives across islands
In celebration of Earth Day 2025, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives united guests and team members across its island properties for a series of impactful initiatives reflecting this year’s theme: ‘Our Power, Our Planet.’ Each resort commemorated the occasion with activities aimed at honouring nature, promoting sustainability, and protecting the fragile ecosystems surrounding them.
At Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon, Earth Day was observed with a focused reef and seabed cleanup. Despite the resort’s strict policies against the use of plastic, polythene, and fishing nets, ocean currents often deposit ghost nets and marine debris from external sources. Staff and volunteers took to the waters, diligently removing entangled waste from the corals and ocean floor—an act of environmental stewardship directly supporting the health and longevity of the island’s thriving reef. For Ellaidhoo Maldives, each effort is viewed as a vital contribution to the broader mission of sustaining marine life and inspiring responsible tourism.
Meanwhile, at Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives, the day commenced with a tree-planting session along the beach, with enthusiastic participation from in-house guests and resort colleagues. This symbolic activity underscored a shared commitment to nurturing a greener future, as saplings were planted under the Maldivian skies. In the evening, the resort hosted an informative presentation highlighting its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives from the past year. This session offered guests a moment to reflect on the progress made, reinforce the resort’s sustainability values, and encourage further engagement.
At Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives, both land and sea were at the heart of the Earth Day initiatives. A reef cleanup effort was complemented by tree-planting activities on the island, reinforcing the resort’s dedication to protecting marine biodiversity while enhancing terrestrial green spaces. These hands-on efforts embodied the resort’s commitment to proactive, continuous stewardship of its natural surroundings.
Earth Day 2025 transcended being merely a calendar event; it became a moment of unity, awareness, and collective action. By involving guests in these meaningful experiences, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives continues to cultivate a culture where sustainability is seamlessly woven into island life, creating a lasting impact for future generations.
