Coco Collection to commence a plastic collection scheme for Earth Hour celebrations

As part of the commitment to show support for a greener earth, Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, will switch off all non-essential lights and appliances at 0830 p.m, on March 30. Embracing this year’s Earth Hour theme of ‘Nature Matters’, Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu will also conduct a unique guided walk of nature through the resorts, where guests can learn more about the tropical flora, fauna, and wildlife of the islands.

Earth Day festivities at Coco Bodu Hithi will kick off early at the resorts with an ‘Earthly Snorkel’, which will be followed by a beach and reef clean-up. In the afternoon, the annual tree planting programme of the resorts will also be conducted. The resorts also have plans for later in the evening, with an eco-awareness session to shine a light on the importance of protecting the biodiversity.

At the corporate head office of the resorts located Malé, the single-use plastic collection scheme in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans will commence hand in hand with an awareness session to enlighten the associates about ‘Coco Dreams Green’, the green initiative of the company aimed to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic across the brand.

The long-term goal the company is to bring the amount of single-use plastic on the islands to zero. As part of this ongoing campaign, at the end of the year, the company will also host an artistic event to highlight the effects of plastic pollution on the environment. This event is aimed at showcasing a unique way to address the issues of plastic and is promised to be an exciting opportunity to learn and to create.
