Constance Moofushi Maldives commemorates Independence Day with cultural celebration
Constance Moofushi Maldives marked Maldivian Independence Day on 26th July 2025 with a distinguished two-day celebration dedicated to the nation’s cultural, artisanal, and culinary heritage. Set against the serene beauty of the island’s pristine shores, the event paid homage to the Maldives’ rich traditions and to the women whose artistry and dedication continue to shape its identity.
This year’s programme brought together two notable cultural figures—Chef Juweyria Wajdhee and master artisan Hafsa Husny—whose individual contributions reflect the essence of meaningful experiences: those that inspire, connect, and uplift.
On 26th July, the celebration commenced with a live culinary showcase led by Chef Juweyria Wajdhee, renowned for her work in preserving Maldivian gastronomy. An acclaimed author and recipient of the prestigious Rehendhi Award, Chef Juwey has influenced over 12,000 women and aspiring chefs, playing a pivotal role in sustaining the Maldives’ culinary legacy.
The following day, guests participated in an interactive session exploring the traditional embroidery technique of Kasabu Boavalhu. The session was conducted by Hafsa Husny, a respected advocate for Maldivian textile traditions, whose efforts have helped revitalise craft heritage while empowering women across the archipelago.
Long-time friends and collaborators, Chef Juwey and Hafsa Husny share a common mission to safeguard and celebrate Maldivian culture. Their partnership underscores the enduring creativity and resilience of Maldivian women, and their presence brought depth and authenticity to the event.
Throughout the two-day gathering, guests were invited to experience live cooking demonstrations showcasing local flavours, hands-on weaving workshops revealing the intricacies of traditional craftsmanship, and storytelling encounters reflecting on the role of women in shaping national identity.
Constance Moofushi reaffirmed its commitment to cultural stewardship, offering experiences that blend refined comfort with the authenticity of Maldivian heritage. Each element of the celebration was carefully curated to reflect the resort’s belief that true luxury lies in genuine connection, discovery, and belonging.
As the Maldivian flag rose above the turquoise horizon on Independence Day, the event became more than a commemorative gathering—it was a heartfelt tribute to heritage, resilience, and the shared joy of cultural exchange.
At Constance Moofushi Maldives, hospitality is more than service; it is a celebration of legacy, generosity, and timeless connection—one meaningful moment at a time.
