Emirates appoints Jaber Mohamed as Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives

Emirates has announced the appointment of Jaber Mohamed as the airline’s new Country Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, effective from 1 August 2025.

In this role, Jaber will be tasked with supporting Emirates’ commercial objectives and overseeing operations across the two island nations. He will also be responsible for maintaining key relationships with various stakeholders. Currently serving as Country Manager for Bangladesh, Jaber’s new position forms part of a series of strategic appointments aimed at strengthening the airline’s presence in critical markets across West Asia, the Indian Ocean, and Africa. These changes are also intended to offer developmental opportunities for emerging UAE national talent.

Other UAE national commercial leaders set to assume new roles within the Emirates network from 1 August include Talal Al Gergawi, presently Country Manager for Zimbabwe, who will take up the post of Country Manager for Bangladesh; Salem Almana, currently Regional Manager for Pakistan, who will become Country Manager for Ghana; and Omar Bushlaibi, currently Country Manager for Zambia, who will take on interim responsibility for Zimbabwe in addition to his existing duties.

These recent rotations are part of Emirates’ commercial outstation managers programme, which is designed to give UAE Nationals the opportunity to broaden their leadership capabilities and gain deeper insights into regional markets. The programme also enables Emirati managers to expand their professional networks by engaging with local industry players and government bodies, helping to cultivate new partnerships and enhance existing ones.

Emirates has maintained a presence in the Maldives for 38 years and currently operates 28 weekly flights to the island nation using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, including retrofitted jets featuring Premium Economy cabins. The airline continues to play a significant role in supporting the country’s tourism and trade sectors and remains the leading international carrier in the Maldives. Emirates connects the destination with key markets such as the UAE, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, and Germany. In recognition of its contributions, Emirates received the ‘President’s Tourism Gold Award’ in 2022 for its outstanding support in the development of tourism in the Maldives.
