Intercontinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort appoints Ali Niyaz as Executive Housekeeper

InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has announced the appointment of Ali Niyaz as Executive Housekeeper, marking a proud milestone that reflects both his personal journey and the resort’s continued commitment to developing talent from within.

Niyaz joined InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort in 2021 as a Villa Attendant / Coordinator, bringing with him valuable experience gained across other resorts in the Maldives. Known among his colleagues for his dedication, discipline, and willingness to learn, he progressed through key roles including Housekeeping Supervisor, Assistant Executive Housekeeper, and Housekeeping Manager before assuming his current position in 2026.

Today, as Executive Housekeeper, Niyaz leads one of the resort’s largest operational teams, overseeing housekeeping and laundry services while maintaining the standards expected of a luxury international brand. His appointment reflects years of hard work, resilience, and the trust placed in him by the leadership team.

Reflecting on his journey, Ali Niyaz shared: “When I joined the resort, I never imagined how far this journey would take me. Every role taught me something new, and every challenge helped shape who I am today. I am grateful to the leaders and colleagues who believed in me and supported my growth. I hope my journey encourages young Maldivians to believe that with commitment and consistency, opportunities will come.”

Niyaz’s progression highlights InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort’s focus on long-term career development, mentorship, and creating meaningful opportunities for local colleagues within a global hospitality environment.

Commenting on the appointment, Mohamed Hussain Shihab, Area Director of Human Resources, said: “Niyaz’s journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved when dedication is met with opportunity. At InterContinental Maldives, we are proud to support the growth of all our colleagues by providing clear pathways for development, learning, and leadership. His story reflects the values we strive to uphold across the resort and within IHG.”

Niyaz’s appointment stands as a source of inspiration for aspiring Maldivian hoteliers, demonstrating that global brands can be places where local talent is recognised, nurtured, and elevated into leadership roles.
