InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has announced the promotion of Ali Zain Shahuneem to the role of Director of Rooms, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey and reinforcing his reputation as one of the region’s emerging leaders in luxury hospitality.
Originally from Feydhoo in Addu City, Shahuneem is a proud Maldivian whose deep-rooted understanding of local culture and hospitality has greatly influenced his career. His journey in the hospitality industry began with LUX* Resorts & Hotels, where he developed strong foundations in guest experience, front office operations, and team leadership—skills that have been pivotal in shaping his success in the luxury hospitality sector.
In 2019, Shahuneem joined InterContinental Maldives as part of the pre-opening team, serving as Duty Manager. His efforts played a vital role in launching the resort and embedding its distinct service culture. Over the years, he steadily progressed through the ranks, holding positions such as Assistant Front Office Manager, Front Office Manager, and most recently, Rooms Division Manager. Throughout, he has remained committed to excellence, team development, and delivering outstanding guest experiences.
Known for his ability to raise service standards and motivate his colleagues, Shahuneem now assumes the position of Director of Rooms. In this capacity, he will lead both the Front Office and Housekeeping teams, guiding them with strategic insight, operational expertise, and the heartfelt hospitality synonymous with the Maldives.
“Zain’s journey is a testament to the incredible potential of Maldivian talent. His growth, dedication, and leadership continue to inspire those around him,” said Mohamed Shihab, Area Director of Human Resources – Maldives. “We are proud to have nurtured his development and look forward to seeing the impact he will continue to make, both at InterContinental Maldives and within the wider IHG family.”
