Judges for Hotelier Maldives Awards 2025

Hotelier Maldives has announced the panel of judges for the Hotelier Maldives Awards 2025, presented by Bestbuy Maldives (BBM). The awards celebrate outstanding professionals in the Maldives’ tourism and hospitality industry.

The 2025 edition builds on the success of the inaugural event held in 2024, which received over 300 nominees and 100,000 public votes. This year, the number of nominees has increased to over 450.

The judging panel for the 2025 awards comprises seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the hospitality and tourism industry:

  • Julia Baur, Managing Director at IREKS Asia-Pacific: With a strong background in the food and beverage sector, she brings valuable insight into the industry’s evolving trends and best practices.
  • Liz Smailes: A highly experienced hospitality and marketing professional with expertise in strategic brand development and communications.
  • Neil Shorthouse: A well-respected hospitality consultant known for his work in leadership development, talent acquisition, and training within the luxury hospitality sector.
  • Fathimath Umar: A senior lecturer in culinary arts at Villa College and Executive Chef.
  • Ibrahim Asim: Known as IB, he brings over two decades of experience in destination marketing.
  • Ali Naafiz, Editor of Hotelier Maldives: He has extensive experience in public relations, communications and hospitality industry reporting.

The judging process for the 2025 awards will take place from February 20 to March 10. Following this, public voting will be open from March 20 to April 20, with the winners determined through a combination of judges’ marks (60%) and public votes (40%). Finalists will be announced online before the public voting phase begins.

Building on its success, the 2025 edition of the Hotelier Maldives Awards introduces four new categories:

  • Watersports Personality of the Year
  • Diving Personality of the Year
  • Airport Representative of the Year
  • Resort Manager of the Year

The winners will be unveiled at a gala ceremony in May 2025.
