MACL Opens Expanded West Apron at Velana International Airport
Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) has inaugurated the expanded west apron at Velana International Airport (VIA). The opening was marked with the arrival of Maldivian Q2707 flight from India on 4th November 2021
The new apron has nine aircraft stands that can accommodate both domestic and international flights. It was developed by the China Beijing Urban Development Construction Group (BUCG). VIA now offers services from its north, east and west aprons.
Gordon Andrew Stewart, CEO and MD of MACL mentioned the opening of the apron at the GM Forum 2021, held at Paradise Island Resort on 23rd September. Gordon added that the Phase one of VIP Terminal is set to open this November or December, as well as the new seaplane terminal with Manta Air. The new seaplane terminal with Trans Maldivian Airways is scheduled to open in March 2022 while the new runaway is estimated to open in October 2022.
