Maldives’ 2023 tourist arrivals cross 1.7 million

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have surged beyond 1.7 million, as indicated by statistics released by the Tourism Ministry.

The latest figures unveiled by the ministry disclose a total of 1,703,204 tourist arrivals as of Sunday, marking a 12.9 percent rise compared to the 1,508,307 arrivals for the same duration last year.

The Maldives currently witnesses an average of 5,099 daily tourist arrivals.

Among the top source markets, Russia leads with 193,269 arrivals, constituting 11.3 percent of the market share, followed by India with 185,987 arrivals (10.9 percent), and China closely behind with 176,803 arrivals (10.4 percent).

  4. UK: 139,867 arrivals (8.2 percent)

  6. Italy: 101,194 arrivals (5.9 percent)
  7. US: 67,238 arrivals (3.9 percent)
  8. France: 44,442 arrivals (2.6 percent)
  9. Spain: 37,420 arrivals (2.2 percent)
  10. Switzerland: 33,991 arrivals (2 percent)

The Tourism Ministry reports operational beds numbering 63,644 across 1,261 registered tourist establishments.

Recently awarded the World’s Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year at the 2023 World Travel Awards, the Maldives initially aimed for 1.8 million tourist arrivals for this year, later revising the target to 1.9 million—a record-breaking figure in the country’s history.

In 2019, the Maldives marked its highest-ever tourist arrivals, reaching 1.7 million visitors.
