Male’-Vilimale’ and Vilimale’-Gulhifalhu Channels Closed Due to Safety Concerns

Transport Ministry has announced the closure of the channels between Male’-Vilimale’ and Vilimale’-Gulhifalhu due to safety hazards related to the ongoing Male’-Thilafushi Link Bridge Project.

The Ministry issued a statement reminding the public not to navigate through the restricted channels, despite sightings of boats, especially speedboats traveling to resorts, disregarding the ban.

The announcement highlighted the use of barges and self-elevated platforms for the project, posing a significant risk of collision for any vessels entering the area. The presence of numerous buoys and nets further intensifies the navigation hazards.

“Therefore, these two sea channels have been closed as it is not safe to navigate,” the Ministry declared.

Violators who disregard the closure and enter the restricted zone will face a one-month suspension of their vessel licenses, the Ministry warned.
