Secret Paradise Maldives achieves Climate Literacy Certification
Local tour operator Secret Paradise Maldives has been recognised as a climate literate company, following the successful completion of a Climate Literacy Workshop delivered by carbon experts ECOLLECTIVE and certified by the Carbon Literacy Project. The interactive and immersive workshop went beyond basic facts and statistics, encouraging open dialogue and a sense of accountability among participants. It enabled the team to develop a deeper understanding of climate challenges, while also committing to practical actions that will positively influence the company’s operations and carbon footprint.
“Climate change is not something happening elsewhere—it’s happening here, and it’s happening now,” commented UB Waseem, Tour Leader at Secret Paradise Maldives. “It’s not just a topic of internal discussion anymore. Our guests are increasingly bringing up the subject during island tours and visits to mangroves and seagrass meadows. These interactions are opening up meaningful conversations about climate impact and carbon capture, and there’s clearly a growing interest in what can be done.”
For Secret Paradise Maldives—a company long committed to sustainable tourism—the training reinforced the importance of shared responsibility and demonstrated how small, consistent actions can collectively create lasting change. “What made this training so effective was its focus on actionable outcomes,” explained Ruth Franklin, Co-Founder of Secret Paradise Maldives. “It wasn’t just about understanding the problem—it was about becoming part of the solution.”
This certification marks a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing sustainability journey, following its pledge in 2023 as a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.
