Sun Siyam Olhuveli Maldives appoints Myles Murphy as new Marine Biologist
Sun Siyam Olhuveli Maldives has announced the appointment of Myles Murphy as the resort’s new Marine Biologist, underscoring the property’s continued dedication to marine conservation and sustainable practices.
Hailing from the UK, Myles Murphy holds a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Newcastle, awarded in 2021. He brings a strong background in both temperate and tropical marine ecosystems, with hands-on experience gained during a recent conservation internship with Indo Ocean Project in Indonesia. This opportunity helped him refine key skills in coral restoration, reef health assessments, and marine surveying, reinforcing his expertise in ecosystem preservation.
In his new role at Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Murphy will lead a variety of marine conservation initiatives focused on safeguarding and rehabilitating the local marine environment. His responsibilities will include conducting essential scientific research, collaborating with NGOs and governmental agencies, and overseeing diverse marine surveys. As a certified Coral Gardener, he plans to enhance existing coral propagation projects and contribute to reef restoration efforts vital to sustaining marine biodiversity in the Maldives.
Murphy is also committed to public education and guest engagement. His background in citizen science and experiential learning will help design immersive guest programs that empower visitors to participate in conservation efforts directly. By combining scientific awareness with hands-on experiences, he aims to inspire greater environmental stewardship among guests and the broader community.
His academic foundation—particularly in geospatial analysis and understanding the impact of human activities on marine systems—aligns perfectly with Sun Siyam Olhuveli’s sustainability goals. His appointment represents a meaningful advancement in the resort’s eco-conscious hospitality approach.
“We are delighted to welcome Myles to the Sun Siyam family. His expertise and passion for marine conservation will further elevate our environmental programs, ensuring that our marine ecosystems continue to thrive,” said Koen Zuurbier, General Manager at Sun Diving.
