Taj Coral Reef Maldives commissions floating solar park

Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa, Maldives has announced the commissioning of its floating solar park, marking a significant step forward in the resort’s sustainability journey. Implemented in partnership with Swimsol, the largest solar provider in Maldives and a global leader in marine floating photovoltaics, the initiative reflects Taj Coral Reef’s continued commitment to responsible luxury and clean energy solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Nitin Walia, Resort Manager, Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa, said, “Sustainability is at the heart of how we envision the future of hospitality. The introduction of our floating solar park is a meaningful milestone in reducing our environmental footprint while enhancing long-term energy resilience. This initiative aligns seamlessly with IHCL’s ESG+ framework – Paathya, reinforcing our responsibility towards conservation, efficiency, and the preservation of the pristine marine environment that surrounds us.”

The floating solar system with a capacity of 1,060 kWp, supported by a grid-forming battery energy storage system with a capacity of 1,200 kWh, allows the resort to operate completely without generators for up to 11 hours per day. The system is expected to save around 470,000 liters of diesel per year, eliminating more than 1,200 tons of CO2 annually. This initiative further strengthens Taj Coral Reef’s ongoing efforts to integrate innovative, eco-conscious practices across operations.

“We are very happy and proud to have implemented this landmark project in close cooperation with the Taj Coral team”, said Daniel Reinhardt, Head of Sales and Project Development at Swimsol. “Both Taj Resorts in Maldives have been early adopters of new and innovate technologies to substantially reduce their carbon footprint, and we are incredibly thankful that they selected Swimsol as their partner to achieve this goal.”

Located in the heart of North Malé Atoll, Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa is renowned for its dedication to sustainable tourism, marine conservation, and community engagement, continuing to set benchmarks for environmentally responsible hospitality in the Maldives.
