The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives appoints Justin Swart as General Manager
The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives has appointed Justin Swart as General Manager, effective April 3, 2025. With close to 20 years of luxury hospitality experience across South Africa, Thailand, and the Maldives, Swart brings a forward-thinking vision and people-driven leadership style to the award-winning resort.
Originally from Worcester in South Africa’s Western Cape province, Swart was inspired to pursue a career in hospitality from an early age. Observing the joy and connection his family’s guests experienced during their visits, he quickly recognised the powerful impact of authentic engagement. This early influence set him on a lifelong path to create meaningful experiences for guests from all corners of the globe.
Swart began his professional journey as a personal trainer and fitness supervisor at the Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel in Cape Town (now The Westin Cape Town). His career soon took him to Thailand, where he developed a strong foundation in guest experience, public relations, and resort operations. He swiftly moved into leadership roles, overseeing both boutique resorts and city hotels throughout Phuket and Bangkok.
His first General Manager appointment came in 2016, where he led multiple properties in Bangkok. In 2021, he assumed the role of General Manager at Cora Cora Maldives, further cementing his reputation for innovation and operational excellence.
At The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives, Swart aims to build a culture of exploration and creativity. “Experimentation will be at the heart of our strategy—keeping people interested, informed, involved, and most importantly, inspired,” he says of his leadership approach. He envisions an environment where team members feel empowered to challenge norms and redefine guest experiences in true Standard fashion.
Colleagues describe Swart as curious, considerate, and balanced—qualities that shape both his personal and professional life. A passionate stand-up paddler, he has completed a gruelling 221-kilometre challenge over seven days, during which he and his team collected 1.4 tons of plastic during a 135-square-meter beach cleanup. He is also deeply committed to lifelong learning, public speaking, and relationship-building.
Swart’s guiding philosophy, a quote from Walt Disney, reflects his outlook: “When you’re curious, you’ll find lots of interesting things in life.” Few people know that he is also an avid watch enthusiast, with a growing collection that reflects his appreciation for craftsmanship and legacy.
The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives welcomes Justin Swart and looks forward to a new chapter of innovation, connection, and unforgettable guest experiences under his leadership.
