Visit Maldives formalises participation in Belgrade Expo 2027
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has officially formalised its participation in Belgrade Expo 2027 following the successful conclusion of the Second Annual Planning Meeting held in Belgrade. The participation agreement was signed by the CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, solidifying the Maldives’ commitment to this major global platform.
The agreement marks the transition from initial planning to the next phase of preparations for the Expo. Building on discussions from earlier international planning sessions, VMC will now begin developing the Maldives’ national presence for the event, focusing on showcasing the country’s tourism leadership, environmental stewardship, and cultural identity.

Belgrade Expo 2027, themed “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All,” will take place in Belgrade from 15 May to 15 August 2027. The event is expected to host more than 120 participating countries and attract over four million visitors, making it one of the largest international gatherings scheduled for the region.
For the Maldives, the Expo presents an opportunity to engage new audiences in the Balkan and wider European markets, while highlighting the country’s approach to sustainable tourism and ocean stewardship. The platform will also allow the Maldives to participate in cultural dialogue and international exchange through the Expo’s core themes, including Play for Progress, Play Together, and the Power of Play.
Speaking on the development, Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, noted that preparations for the Expo are being coordinated across multiple institutions. “Visit Maldives has been working closely with relevant ministries and national authorities to ensure a strong and coordinated presence at Belgrade Expo 2027.

This collaboration allows us to present the Maldives in a unified manner, bringing together tourism, culture, sustainability, and national identity on an international stage.”
Visit Maldives Corporation will now continue working with the Belgrade Expo 2027 organising committee and relevant national stakeholders to develop the Maldives’ pavilion concept and programme. The participation is expected to support the country’s continued engagement with European markets while providing a platform to present the Maldives’ tourism, culture, and environmental initiatives to a global audience.
