Visit Maldives hosts roadshows in South Korea’s Seoul, Busan

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, recently organized a highly successful roadshow in Seoul, South Korea, on June 21.

The aim of this event was to establish connections with potential operators and agents in Seoul, further enhancing trade relationships, and promoting the Maldives as the ultimate destination for South Korean travellers. In continuation of this fruitful endeavour, a second roadshow is scheduled to take place on June 23, 2023, in Busan.

A total of 11 prominent companies representing the Maldivian tourism industry participated in the roadshow, seizing the opportunity to showcase their exceptional offerings to the South Korean market. These renowned companies included Angsana Velavaru, LUX* South Ari Atoll, Madifushi Private Island, Maldivian Charter Club, Oaga Art Resort Maldives, Robinson Club Maldives Pvt Ltd, RUI Atoll and RIU Palace Maldives, The Cocoon Collection, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, and Inner Maldives. The enthusiastic participation of these industry leaders underscores the unwavering commitment of the Maldives tourism sector to meet the preferences and demands of South Korean travellers.

During the roadshow in Seoul, MMPRC conducted an engaging social media contest, with the lucky winners receiving exclusive Maldives-themed merchandise. Additionally, a raffle draw was held, granting two fortunate winners an all-expenses-paid holiday in the Maldives. Another exciting raffle draw is set to take place during the Busan roadshow, offering two more fortunate individuals a chance to experience the Maldives’ wonders first-hand. The raffle draws were generously sponsored by Robinson Maldives, Riu Hotels & Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts, and Cocoon Maldives. As part of the event, a dedicated Maldivian corner was arranged, featuring delectable Maldivian snacks and a captivating display of lacquer works, enabling attendees to immerse themselves in the rich Maldivian culture.

The primary objectives of these roadshows are to solidify South Korea’s position as one of the key source markets for the Maldives and to foster stronger partnerships with potential travel agents and industry collaborators. These events perfectly align with Visit Maldives’ strategic marketing approach, which focuses on promoting individual products and delivering unparalleled experiences tailored to South Korean travellers’ preferences.

Historically, South Korea has been a significant source market for the Maldives. In 2022, it ranked as the 9th largest market, contributing 35,948 arrivals, accounting for a 2.1% share. Even before the pandemic, South Korea held the 11th position in 2019. South Korean tourists continue to show immense interest in the Maldives, with 13,335 arrivals recorded as of May 13, 2023, indicating a strong and growing market for the Maldivian tourism industry.
