The Maldives Ministry of Tourism announced plans to open 14 islands across the country for resort development. In the coming week, the Ministry of Tourism is inviting bids for resort projects in the Northern region of Thiladhunmathi to support the redevelopment of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. It is estimated an additional 8,000 tourist beds are required to support the airport.

Investors are supported to develop tourist facilities in underserved regions. The Ministry of Tourism revealed that nine new resorts are set to open in 2023. Last year, five new resorts opened in Kaafu Atoll, Meemu Atoll and Raa Atoll.
