China Jumps to Maldives 7th Largest Source Market

China has overtaken France to become the Maldives 7th largest source market. As of April 25, 2023, the Maldives received 26,802 Chinese tourists. China currently enjoys 4.1% market share.

Prior to the pandemic by the end of April, 2019, China was the Maldives’ largest source market, with 14.7% market share and 95,272 arrivals.

Chinese tourists to Maldives are steadily increasing after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. On January 18, 2023, the first flight from China arrived in Maldives since March 2022.

Earlier this month, on April 10, 2023, South Korea replaced Austria as the Maldives’ 10th largest source market. As of April 25, 2023, the Maldives received 11,766 visitors from Korea, comprising 1.8% market share.
