Maldives nominated for World’s Leading and Green Destination titles at World Travel Awards 2025

The Maldives has once again been nominated in two of the most prestigious categories at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025, reaffirming its reputation as one of the world’s most desirable travel destinations. The country is competing for the titles of World’s Leading Destination 2025 and World’s Leading Green Destination 2025.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards are widely recognised as the benchmark for excellence in the global travel and tourism industry, celebrating outstanding achievements across all sectors of the international travel ecosystem.

In 2025, the Maldives is vying for the World’s Leading Destination title for the sixth consecutive year, a milestone that underscores its continued global appeal. The country faces strong competition from 19 other world-renowned destinations, including Dubai, Greece, Indonesia, Spain, and Vietnam.

The nomination for World’s Leading Green Destination 2025 further highlights the Maldives’ commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism. Following its first win in this category in 2024, the recognition reflects the nation’s ongoing efforts to protect its delicate ecosystems while offering visitors authentic, world-class experiences.

“These nominations are a reflection of the dedication and passion of everyone who contributes to the Maldives’ tourism industry,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation. “Winning these titles is not only a matter of pride but also a global recognition of our collective efforts to deliver exceptional experiences while preserving the natural beauty that makes the Maldives unique. We invite everyone who loves the Maldives to cast their vote and help us continue this legacy of excellence.”

Voting for the World Travel Awards 2025 closes on 26 October 2025. Visit Maldives encourages travellers, partners, and supporters worldwide to participate and help secure this distinguished recognition for the nation.

If the Maldives succeeds in retaining the World’s Leading Destination title for the sixth consecutive year and the World’s Leading Green Destination title for the second year running, it would further strengthen the country’s position as a global leader in sustainable luxury tourism and reinforce its enduring appeal to travellers across the world.
