Italian journalists explore Maldives through Visit Maldives-Alpitour initiative

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), in collaboration with Alpitour World, successfully concluded a media familiarisation (FAM) trip in the Maldives for a group of leading Italian journalists representing prominent lifestyle, travel, and fashion publications.

The initiative formed part of the ongoing joint marketing collaboration between Visit Maldives and Alpitour World, aimed at strengthening the Maldives’ visibility within the Italian market through editorial coverage, digital storytelling, and destination-focused media engagement.

The visiting delegation, selected by Alpitour World, included journalists from publications such as Vanity Fair, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Next Gen Magazine and The Wom. During their stay, the group experienced a diverse range of tourism offerings across the Maldives through an itinerary curated by Alpitour World. The programme included stays at Fiyavalhu Resort, Villa Park Sun Island and Villa Nautica, as well as visits to the local islands of Dhigurah and Maamigili. The itinerary also featured marine activities and cultural experiences, providing firsthand insight into the breadth and diversity of experiences available across the destination.

The programme showcased the Maldives beyond its traditional resort image, highlighting the diversity of experiences available across the destination. Through firsthand exposure to local communities, island life, marine biodiversity and hospitality offerings, the initiative aimed to generate authentic destination coverage tailored to Italian audiences.

“Italy continues to be one of the Maldives’ most important European markets, and collaborations such as this allow us to engage audiences through trusted editorial voices and authentic storytelling,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation. “Through our partnership with Alpitour World, we were able to showcase the diversity of experiences available in the Maldives while strengthening long-term visibility within the Italian travel market.”

Italy is one of the Maldives’ key European source markets. As of June 10, 2026, the Maldives recorded 70,163 visitors from Italy, building on the strong arrival numbers throughout 2025, when Italy ranked among the country’s leading tourism markets.

Through strategic partnerships with leading tour operators and travel trade partners, Visit Maldives continues to strengthen destination visibility and engagement across key international markets, reinforcing the Maldives’ position within the European luxury and leisure travel segment.
