First Maldivian dive instructors complete TDI Technical Diving training
A milestone for Maldivian dive safety and professional development has been reached as the first group of Maldivian Diving Instructors successfully completed their TDI Technical Diving training at Aquaventure Tec Center in Addu Atoll. This marks the beginning of a new era in advanced dive training within the Maldives, strengthening national capacity for safe deep‑diving operations.
The initiative gained urgency following the tragic cave accident in Vaavu Atoll, which highlighted the risks associated with deep diving and the growing need for proper technical diving certifications among local dive professionals. With increasing awareness across the industry, Maldivian instructors are now taking proactive steps to ensure safer, more controlled deep‑dive practices throughout the country.
The newly trained group includes members of the Velana International Airport – Airport Emergency Services Department – Dive Team , who will now integrate technical diving protocols into their operational standards. The team will be led by Ahmed Junaid, a certified TDI Technical Diver, who will take responsibility for sharing his knowledge and elevating the skill level of his entire unit.
