Finolhu appoints Harry Green Longin as Marine Biologist

Finolhu, a Seaside Collection Resort, has announced the appointment of Harry Green Longin as Marine Biologist, reinforcing the resort’s commitment to marine conservation and environmental stewardship within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll.

Bringing extensive experience in marine conservation, environmental sustainability and guest engagement within luxury hospitality settings, Harry joins Finolhu from The Westin Maldives, where he served as Marine Biologist and Scuba Instructor. During his tenure, he led marine education programmes, supported conservation initiatives and curated immersive ocean experiences designed to foster a deeper appreciation of the Maldives’ unique marine ecosystems.

Located within one of the world’s most ecologically significant marine environments, Finolhu has established a comprehensive coral restoration programme dedicated to protecting and regenerating the reefs of Baa Atoll. Central to the initiative are two underwater coral nurseries comprising more than 40 coral trees and over 2,000 coral fragments, many of which have been adopted and planted by guests and team members.

To date, more than 1,500 coral fragments have been successfully transplanted back onto the surrounding reefs, helping to restore vital marine habitats and strengthen reef resilience in the face of global environmental challenges, including coral bleaching and rising ocean temperatures.

Under Harry’s leadership, Finolhu will continue to expand its marine conservation efforts through a combination of reef restoration, sustainability initiatives and educational programmes. Guests are invited to participate in hands-on experiences such as the resort’s coral adoption programme and Coral Conservation Course, which combine marine education with citizen science and allow visitors to contribute directly to ongoing conservation efforts.

Through these initiatives, Finolhu aims to deepen guests’ connection with the natural world while safeguarding the extraordinary marine ecosystems of Baa Atoll for future generations.
