Dusit Thani Maldives launches Ray of Hope initiative to support local youth and marine conservation
Dusit Thani Maldives has introduced Ray of Hope, a meaningful community initiative designed to support local schools while creating a stronger connection between guests, sustainability, and youth development.
Led by CSR Manager Laura Allevi, the initiative reflects the resort’s ongoing commitment to responsible tourism and community engagement within Baa Atoll.
At the heart of the project is a drawing competition involving students from Dharavandhoo, Kihaadhoo, and Dhonfanu. Inspired by the rich marine life of Hanifaru Bay, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve renowned for its manta ray gatherings, students were invited to create their own artistic interpretation of a manta ray.

Following enthusiastic participation, the winning artwork was awarded to a talented student from Kihaadhoo. The selected design will be featured as the cover of the Ray of Hope booklet, celebrating the creativity and imagination of local youth.
The award ceremony was attended by Area General Manager Jean-Louis Ripoche and CSR Manager Laura Allevi, who personally presented the recognition to the participating students. Their presence highlighted the resort’s strong leadership commitment to community engagement and youth empowerment, making the moment especially meaningful for the young participants.

Complementing the initiative, a collection of marine-inspired soft toys, including manta rays, are available for purchase at the resort during guests’ stay, with proceeds supporting the resort’s Green Fund and contributing to both environmental conservation and community initiatives.

The initiative is further enriched by the involvement of Ivan Coste-Manière, Associate Dean and Professor of Marketing, Luxury and Brand Strategy. With connections to the Olympic Committee, his participation brings an international dimension to the project, linking it to youth development through sport and global collaboration.
Jean-Louis Ripoche, Area General Manager of Dusit Hotel & Resorts – Maldives, added: “At Dusit Thani Maldives, we believe that true luxury is rooted in purpose and connection. Initiatives like Ray of Hope allow us to engage with our local communities in a meaningful way, while inspiring the next generation to value and protect the natural beauty that surrounds us. It is a privilege to support these young talents and be part of their journey.”

Through initiatives like Ray of Hope, Dusit Thani Maldives continues to strengthen its role as a responsible luxury resort where sustainability and community are an integral part of the guest experience.
