Environment Day and Ocean’s Day celebrations at Hurawalhi Island Resort

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hurawalhi Island Resort, with caring for the environment at its heart, is celebrating World Environment Day today, with special plans for World Ocean’s Day later this month. World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5, with the celebrations themed ‘Connecting people to nature’ this year.

Environment Day celebrations will kick off in Hurawalhi with a special afternoon excursion for snorkelers. Lisa Bauer, the resort’s resident Marine Biologist and Manta Trust researcher will initiate the events with a presentation, which will be followed by the snorkelling excursion on the reef and a visit to an uninhabited island for a beach cleaning event.

In addition, Ocean Water Sports is inviting guests to appreciate the beauty of the ocean with a special two hour snorkelling excursion. The excursion will take guests to three reefs near the resort island.

On World Ocean’s Day, marked annually on June 8, Hurawalhi is inviting guests to join Lisa on a Nature Walk around the island, exploring the unique natural setting of the Island.

“We will search for juvenile black tip reef sharks, smell typical Maldivian plants and visit the resort’s greenhouse. Discover the naturalist in you during your holiday at Hurawalhi,” said Lisa.

After Lunch, a guest speaker from Naifaru Juvenile, a Local NGO will give a presentation on their charity work and introduce guests to the turtle sanctuary at the Atoll Marine Center, where sea turtles are being nursed and rehabilitated. Finally to end an afternoon of activities divers are invited to join a free-of-charge house reef clean-up dive in the evening.

Hurawalhi Island Resort, is set on an enchanting private island in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll.
