Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru launches Manta Watch! Package

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru has launched the ‘Manta Watch! Package’, offering guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with manta rays and whale sharks.  The package, available from June 7 to November 21, is “perfect for guests who seek to experience the best of the manta season,” said the resort.

Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since July 2011, Baa Atolls crystal clear waters are home to nine core protected areas including two of the most renowned manta ray hotspots, Hanifaru Bay and Bathaala which are located near the resort.

The four-night package for two includes round-trip seaplane transfers from the airport, daily buffet breakfast, a Manta-on-Call snorkeling excursion, a personal coral frame propagation, a dolphin cruise and a briefing by the resort’s marine biologist.

During the ‘manta season’, a combination of Southwestern monsoon currents in conjunction with lunar tides bring large quantities of planktonic shrimps to various sites around the resort. Planktonic shrimps are a favourite snack for some of the grandest creatures of the ocean including whale sharks and manta rays.

The Manta-on-Call programme gives guests the opportunity to be whisked away on the first sight of mantas to snorkel with the magnificent creatures.

The package also allows guests to be a part of the only full-time manta ray research project that allows them to be a part of an underwater cocktail party of swimming with dolphins and turtles in the 2-kilometre lagoon while helping the Reefscapers team turn previously bare reef flats to thriving coral ecosystems.

Hanifaru Bay is presently a Marine Protected Area with regulations in respect to the dates and times of visits. Since July 1, 2011, Four Season Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru donates US$5 to the Hanifaru Bay NGO fund on behalf of each guest entering the bay.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
