Govt opens bidding for resort development in 2 northern islands
The Maldives’ Tourism Ministry has announced the commencement of the bidding process for resort development and operation on two islands located in the northernmost Bodu Thiladhummathi region. The ministry’s official gazette published the announcement, inviting interested parties to submit their bids for these lucrative opportunities.
The two islands open for resort development are HA. Medhafushi and Sh. Nalandhoo, both of which have been earmarked for strategic tourism expansion.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during his recent campaign visit to Bodu Thiladhummathi, unveiled the decision to open bids for resort development on these islands, marking a step towards enhancing tourism offerings in the region.
HA. Medhafushi, the first island, spans 11.74 hectares in size. The ministry has outlined plans for the development of at least 120 beds. Interested parties seeking to participate in this venture must provide a Land Acquisition Cost (LAC) of USD 875,000 and demonstrate a financial capacity of USD 2 million.
Sh. Nalandhoo, the second island, boasts an extensive 63.99 hectares. The ministry envisions a minimum of 200 beds to be developed on this island. Prospective developers for Sh. Nalandhoo are required to submit an LAC of USD 1 million and showcase a financial capacity of USD 10 million.
To ensure commitment and credibility, bidders are expected to furnish a bid security amounting to USD 50,000.
Key dates for the bidding process include an information session scheduled for August 30 via Zoom at 11 am. Those interested in attending this session are advised to send an email to planning@tourism.gov.mv before 12 pm on August 29.
The bid submission deadline is set for September 21 at 10 am, and for any clarification regarding the announcement, interested parties can submit their queries via email before 1 pm on September 17.
